As many of the players head to Tokyo for the Olympics, two clay-court tournaments remain in Europe.

One of them, the BNP Paribas Poland Open, is a new event in Gdynia run by a company headed by Polish star Iga Swiatek’s father.

She is not playing in this inaugural edition, but was there earlier in the week playing an exhibition with another rising Polish player, Hubert Hurkacz.

The event is a transfer from what was the WTA side of the Citi Open, which was moved to Lexington, Kentucky last year when play resumed after the pandemic pause.
