–
Only eight matches on the doubles docket Monday, as Ashleigh Barty flipped the page from a disappointing loss to Spain’s Sara Sorribes Tormo in the singles on Sunday.
Alternates Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini, who came in for Jurak and Vekic (Croatia) on Sunday and upset No. 8 seeds Nicole Melichar and Alison Riske of the U.S., faced the Kichenok sisters of Ukraine and didn’t back it up.
The Russian team of Veronika Kudermetova and Elena Vesnina, who made the Wimbledon final, put the final punctuation on the career of Dutchwoman Kiki Bertens as they defeated Bertens and Demi Schuurs.
And the other Dutch team – Rojer and Koolhof on the men’s side, saw their Olympic ambitions end after a positive COVID-19 test for Rojer.
