–
Vasek Pospisil’s defence of his finals appearance in Sofia last fall began with a first-round match against qualifier Egor Gerasimov.
Who is a tough customer, and proved to be so as he send the Canadian packing in the first round.
Pospisil had a match point in the second-set tiebreak, but couldn’t convert it.
Currently ranked No. 68, Pospisil will fall at least outside the top 80 with the loss.
The Canadian has only won back-to-back matches once in 2021 – and that came with a retirement by Alejandro Davidovich Fokina at Eastbourne.
He has lost in the first round of eight of his 14 tournaments so far this season.
