It was a heartbreaker for the Canadian, as she went down in a third-set tiebreak.

Later, she and Coco Gauff took on No. 2 seeds Hsieh Su-Wei and Elise Mertens in doubles. But the teen queens, down after both were eliminated in singles, had trouble mustering up energy – and smiles – despite the full support of a big, noisy crowd.
