The night singles match, with both players at 1-1 in the pool, was a triumph for Maria Sakkari and a huge disappointment for No. 1 seed Aryna Sabalenka.

Canadian Sharon Fichman, who still had a small chance of qualifying for the semifinals with partner Giuliana Olmos despite them being 0-2 coming in, closed out the night session with a loss that was, meaningfully, over once they lost the first set.
