The Serbs had the No. 1 singles player in the world in Novak Djokovic.
The Croats had the No. 1 doubles players in the world in Mate Pavic and Nikola Mektic.
Something had to give. And while you would still give the Serbs a shot in the deciding doubles if it came to that, the No. 2 singles – up first – was the key in a clash between two countries that were once part of the same whole.
And once Borna Gojo pulled off a pretty impressive upset, the Croatian dubs players did their job, and they’re off to the final.
