INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – American Ashlyn Krueger was the only wild card to survive the first round. She faced veteran Christina Mchale for a spot in the main draw and after a tough first set, rolled.
Lesia Tsurenko of Ukraine, wearing a discreet blue and yellow ribbon to pay homage to her homeland, couldn’t make the dance. She retired after six games in her final-round match.
Note: No. 1 seed Barbora Krejcikova withdrew late. And so Alizé Cornet becomes the No. 33 seed and moves into her spot at the top of the draw.
