Stan Wawrinka (vs Bublik) and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (vs Cilic) were two of the marquee players on the schedule in Monte Carlo Monday.

That both are wild cards at this stage is reflective of their situations: Wawrinka, at 37, is just coming back.

Tsonga, 37 in a week’s time, is saying adieu.

Wawrinka gave it a good go and was a bit unlucky. Tsonga was outclassed by Cilic.
