A good draw and some excellent tennis put Félix Auger-Aliassime into the quarterfinals earlier Thursday.
By nighttime, after being crushed 6-1 by Rafael Nadal in the first set, Denis Shapovalov kept his head up and stayed the court.
In the end, Nadal’s chronic foot injury reared its head and he limped to the finish of a 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 Shapovalov win.
Three Canadians in the quarterfinals of the singles in Rome (these two, along with Bianca Andreescu).
It’s a good week.
