MORE TENNIS THAN YOU'LL EVER NEED

WTA Rankings Report – As of June 13, 2022

With the WTA having already removed the 2021 Roland Garros points, there aren’t nearly as many dramatic swings of fate as is the case on the ATP side.

But there are still some moves – none to speak of in the top 25 – even with two small 250s and a 125 on the docket, and a lot of the top players idle.

(For the updated WTA Tour rankings for Monday, click here).

ON THE UPSWING

Aryna Sabalenka: No. 6 ======> No. 5 (Reaching the s’-Hertogenbosch final gives Sabalenka a one-spot boost in the rankings. That drops Maria Sakkari to No. 6, and is the only change in the top 25).

Ekaterina Alexandrova: No. 30 ======> No. 27 (Alexandrova wins her second career title with a great run in the Netherlands).

Beatriz Haddad Maia (BRA): No. 48 ======> No. 32 (The 26-year-old from Brazil has been through it in her career – basically building back up from scratch after a doping suspension. She’s playing the best tennis of her life, and won her first career WTA title in Nottingham Sunday. She’ll be seeded at Wimbledon).

Alison Riske (USA): No. 40 ======> No. 35 (Pretty much guarantees herself a seed at Wimbledon, after reaching the Nottingham final).

Zheng Qinwen (CHN): No. 54 ======> No. 46 (A debut in the top 50 for the 19-year-old, after she stayed on clay post-Paris and won the WTA 125 in Valencia, Spain. She has a really quick turnaround to grass now – a surface on which she has played just one match in her career).

Wang Xiyu (CHN): No. 111 ======> No. 100 (A top-100 debut for the 21-year-old, beaten by compatriot Zheng in the Valencia final)

Mirjam Bjorklund (SWE): No. 134 ======> No. 124 (Another career high for Denis Shapovalov’s far better half, after making the Valencia semifinal).

Viktoria Kuzmova (SVK): No. 192 ======> No. 164 (Kuznova made the final at a $60K in Australia last week).

Erika Andreeva: No. 178 ======> No. 166 (The 17-year-old from Russia made teh semifinals of a $60K in Biarritz last week. She’s moving up quickly. Before she went from the qualifying to the final at a $100K in Spain a few weeks ago, she was at No. 240).

Laura Siegemund (GER): No. 291 ======> No. 186 (Siegemund, playing on a protected ranking, cut a chunk off her actual ranking with a win at a $60K ITF in Portschach, Austria last week).

Caty McNally (USA): No. 229 ======> No. 197 (It’s an ongoing mystery to us why this talented 20-year-old has yet to break through. But at least now she’s back into the top 200).

Kirsten Flipkens (BEL): No. 308 ======> No. 252 (The 36-year-old is retiring at Wimbledon. But she’s trying to go out in style and made the quarters as ‘s-Hertogenbosch).

ON THE DOWNSWING

Zhang Shuai (CHN): No. 41 ======> No. 54 (Zhang made the Nottingham final a year ago; this year, she lost in the quarters to Tereza Martincova).

Arantxa Rus (NED): No. 77 ======> No. 86 (Rus made the quarterfinals at the 125 in Valencia this year; a year ago, she made the final in Bol – another 125).

Lauren Davis (USA): No. 93 ======> No. 108 (Out of the top 100 afer losing in the first round in Nottingham to Caroline Garcia; a year ago, she made the semifinals beating Alison Riske along the way).

Zarina Diyas (KAZ): No. 157 ======> No. 199 (Diyas has played just two matches this year – a first-round loss at the Australian Open, and a first-round loss in qualifying a few weeks ago at Roland Garros. A year ago, she made the third round in Nottingham).

Sara Errani (ITA): No. 181 ======> No. 213
