MORE TENNIS THAN YOU'LL EVER NEED

Hlavackova and Hradecka at Roland Garros in 2010.

A little blast from the past this week, at the Prague WTA tournament.

Andrea Sestini Hlavackova, still just 35, returns to action with longtime partner Lucie Hradecka in doubles on Monday.

Hlavackova last played singles at the (then) Rogers Cup in 2018. And she last played doubles at the 2018 WTA Finals with Barbora Strycova.

They reached the final in Tokyo, the final in Wuhan and won the Premier Mandatory in Beijing in their last three outings together, before losing in the semifinals of the Finals in Singapore.

Here’s a little photo gallery of the congenial Czech through the years.

Hlavackova married the Italian Fabrizio Sestini, who has worked for numerous tennis organizations – including nearly a decade with the ATP.

After a stint as an agent with Lagardere, he has been with the WTA for six years, and vice-president of tournament relations since Oct. 2021.

The two had a daughter, Isabella (Bibi) who is just about to turn three.

Her Instagram account is full of the scenes of what looks like beautiful, happy, healthy family.

(Safarova had her second child, Oliver, in early May. Not that you would know it).

Just came back to say goodbye

It’s not a comeback; it’s a farewell. There will be a ceremony later in the week.

Sestini Hlavackova has been busy. In addition to motherhood, she seems to have leveraged her 60K-plus Instagram following into endorsing a lot of products.

She also was on the Czech version of Dancing with the Stars.

Sestini Hlavackova, who was a top-five junior in her day, reached No. 58 in singles. But doubles was where she shone.

She won 27 tournaments in all – plus a mixed doubles title with Max Mirnyi at the 2013 US Open.

Sestini Hlavackova and Hradecka teamed up to win the 2011 Roland Garros and 2013 US Open women’s doubles titles.
