The No. 3 seeds in both Chennai and Portoroz were the favorites to win the title.
That would be Magda Linette in Chennai, and Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina in Portoroz. Neither could quite make it.
Linette, struggling with a leg injury late in the match, led 4-1 in the third set. But it was the 17-year-old Linda Fruhvirtova who won her maiden WTA Tour singles title.
Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski and partner Luisa Stefani, the top seeds rolled through the field to win the doubles title in Chennai.
