The first day of the rejigged Asian swing, which runs briefly through Tokyo, Japan and Seoul, Korea, gets under way in rather quiet fashion.
Part of that is that WTA 500s, for reasons unknown, have 28-player draws and so the top four seeds have first-round byes.
Also a lot of qualifiers in action, as well as Cana-Kiwi Erin Routliffe in doubles in Tokyo. The doubles there were played indoors as rain continues.
