After an emphatic win over qualifier Jana Fett, Rebecca Marino returned to the court Wednesday in Seoul and takes on a young Andorran and former junior Slam champion barely half her age, Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva.
Jimenez had just become the first player ever from Andorra to win a WTA Tour main-draw match. She made that two with the win over the Canadian.
And in Tokyo, top three seeds Badosa and Garcia and completed for the first time since the US Open. Both went down in their openers as did Portoroz finalists Rybakina and Fruhvirtova.
As well, Gabriela Dabrowski and Luisa Stefani, who won the Chennai tournament in an effort that had plenty of pathos and happy endings to it, quickly found themselves on … the opposite of the net as opponents.
