Belinda Bencic vs Barbora Krejcikova was SUPPOSED to be a full-tilt second-round match, as was Daria Kasatkina vs. Ekaterina Alexandrova in Ostrava.
In the end, Bencic gave Krejcikova a walkover, and Alexandrova was through in straight sets.
In Monastic, local rock star Ons Jabeur faced a bit of an unknown quantity in her match.
Evgeniya Rodina had been trying to come back for a bit.
But obviously the situation with the grass-court season and the Russians complicated that. But she looked impressive at the US Open – it was hard to tell she’d been gone for quite awhile.
She was, however, no match for Jabeur.

Alycia Parks plays in Ostrava. Some of us Canadian fans might remember her from her 2019 post-match confrontation with Katherine Sebov, chronicled here. Well, Parks qualified in Ostrava, and beat Plyskova and Sakkari, playing high-level tennis (commentators day top 5). She’s now 119 and Sebov is 264, so it seems Parks might have turned some of her pages better, at least in terms of tennis. She still looks high-strung.
