MELBOURNE, Australia – The last two Canadians took the court on Tuesday for their first-round matches.

And the surprise for qualifier Katherine Sebov is that she got the biggest court in the place.

Until 3-3 in the first set, Sebov was with Caroline Garcia, the No. 4 seed. In the end, though, quality prevailed.

Leylah Fernandez got Court 3 in her opener against Alizé Cornet. That’s a tough one. But after a slow start she got through

After that, there were hours off the grid because of the heat index. And then there were thunderstorms. And with a number of matches finally back on court, rain ended the night after 11:30 p.m.
