Fernandez gets ready for Rome Opener (vid)

ROME – It was around 3:30 p.m. when Leylah Fernandez hit the warmup court to get ready for her first-round match against Aliaksandra Sasnovich.

Three hours later, the three matches ahead of her on a schedule that began at 11 a.m. still weren’t done.

So Fernandez – who looked very cheery on the court with coach Julian Alonso, had to sit tight and wait.

Here’s how she looked.

The two are meeting for the first time, with Sasnovich’s currently ranking of No. 44 a little higher than Fernandez, which is at exactly 50.

Last summer, Sasnovich reached her career high of No. 29, and Fernandez her top number of No. 13.
