Open Court

WTA – Thursday, June 29, 2023 final results

A fair few seeds – and top names – still remained at Eastbourne, which was hit with a good number of defections even before the tournament even got going.

Gauff, Pegula, Birmingham champ Ostapenko, and several more are still in although Ons Jabeur is out, beaten by Camila Giorgi.

Ostapenko hit the wall, retiring after losing a tight first set vs Giorgi – knowing she might well have to have it spill over to Friday if she won, along with the singles semi and the doubles semi.

Unfortunately, doubles partners Gauff and Pegula had to play each other. And the younger partner prevailed.

In Bad Homburg, top seed Iga Swiatek is still cookin’.

(Bad Homburg is six hours ahead of EDT; Eastbourne is five hours ahead).
