Some of the players had to double up on Friday, which didn’t give them much help in navigating the semifinals on Saturday.
And in the end, only one semifinal was completed – but it was a big one, as No. 1 Iga Swiatek was upset.
In the Cincinnati qualifying, Rebecca Marino outlasted Camila Giorgi, who retired down 0-3 in the third set.

Hi Stephanie:
What happened to Bianca in Cincinnati? She is not in the draw. For weeks they have been saying she is getting a wildcard into the tournament. Is she injured again, taking a holiday, or just generally discouraged about not being able to get out of the first round in the last two tournaments? And Milos as well.. I know there is big pressure to not bump out American players, but do you know if there was some discussion about it? Are either one of these two playing the smaller tournaments before the US Open?
And what is going to be done about what is now obviously the undersized and inadequate facility at York University? And particularly now that for unknown reasons they are reducing the daytime stadium matches from three to two. We saw this on Wednesday when Andy Murray was relegated to a smaller court that just could not handle the crowd volumes. When the tournament expands to bigger draws and a fortnight there is going to be chaos there. Is Tennis Canada planning ahead for a westward expansion of the facility, or is the very anti-tennis York University going to stop this idea dead? Does the ATP have some type of minimum facility standards that Tennis Canada has to meet for their new super-tournaments?
Where to begin ….
Actually, nowhere. LOLOL
Steph: you slay me … always…. 🙂
