No. 1 seed Carlos Alcaraz has won three three-set matches, and was still alive in the Cincinnati semifinals.
Hubert Hurkacz, who has never met a three-setter he didn’t like, had gotten through his last two matches in … straight sets.
Of course, they went three sets. And Alcaraz saved a match point before prevailing.
In the bottom half, Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev met for the 12th time.
Djokovic leds 7-4, but Zverev won two of their last three – all of thich took place two years ago at the Olympics, the US Open (Djoko in five) and the ATP Finals semis.
A lot of water under the bridge since then. Zverev was competitive, but Djokovic prevailed.
