An unusual week on the WTA Tour, because there are three concurrent events, all in roughly the same time zones.

Unfortunately for the WTA 500 in Zhengzhou, the top two seeds – No. 1 Coco Gauff and No. 2 Elena Rybakina, Grand Slam champions both, were late withdrawals.

At that same event, No. 1 seeds Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe look to make a deep run to try to qualify for the WTA Finals.

And Zheng Qinwen, heavily promoted as the face of her “namesake” tournament, got a night session slot and got through.

In Hong Kong, a washout because of an impending typhoon knocked out the qualifying on Sunday – and the entire schedule on Monday.

It looks only marginally better for Tuesday.
