WTA Tour – Sunday, Nov. 5, 2023 final results

CANCÚN, Mexico –  It was a loaded-up doubles sked, because many of the players have to travel to Spain for the BJK Cup finals.

So that meant that Jessica Pegula, who played first on Satursday and is safetly into the singles final, could play as many as three doubles matches on Sunday.

In the end, she played only one, because she and Coco Gauff lost to Siegemund and Zvonareva in their completed group-stage match.

And then Siegemund and Zvonareva (Siegemund, mostly), refused to play a third match (or 2 1/2-th match) Sunday. She only has to play BJK Cup on … Thursday. So she had plenty of time, unlike finals opponent Ellen Perez, whose Australian team begins play on Tuesday.

So that was it. And Swiatek beat Sabalenka thus keeping her hopes alive to finish year-end No. 1.

It’s been … a time!
