Thursday night was to be the return of Rafael Nadal to Indian Wells – and the return of Canadian Milos Raonic, too, for the first time in five years.

Unfortunately Nadal withdrew Wednesday evening. Which likely was a break for Raonic, who played lucky loser Sumit Nagal instead. And despite a calf pull in the first set, he got through in straights.

Denis Shapovalov was to open against Botic Van de Zandschulp. But it was a late match. And with all the rain delays, it got postponed.
