The two returning moms (who didn’t get first-round byes) are still alive, as Caroline Wozniacki gets the stadium court against American wild card Katie Volynets, and Angelique Kerber gets No. 17 seed Veronika Kudermetova.

To say the last, Kudermetova has been scuffling in 2024; that one could be worth watching.
