The doubles matches were always going to be the first to get postponed during an expected rain-filled day.

So by 3 p.m., the schedule was washed away like anything freestanding on the pavement of Hard Rock Stadium.

Intriguing watch this week – whenever it does happen – will be Beatriz Haddad Maia and Taylor Townsend. They seemed on paper to be a boffo duo, but have been slow to get their momentum going this season.

But they also haven’t played that much, because Townsend’s singles ranking doesn’t always get her into the top, top tournaments.
