That’s the Citi Open in D.C., where clay non-aficionados and players who didn’t want to take part in the Olympics are to kickstart their summer hard-court season.

Canadian Denis Shapovalov is one of those. And he drew a pretty tough customer in Spanish veteran Roberto Bautista Agut in the first round but surprisingly got through him easily.

Meanwhile, it was nearly midnight before Reilly Opelka started his match, because of earlier rain delays. Which are par for the course in D.C.
