MORE TENNIS THAN YOU'LL EVER NEED

Back to the Future for Shapovalov and Pospisil (vid)

MONTREAL – It was like old times – literally – when Canadians Vasek Pospisil and Denis Shapovalov took to the practice court to warmup for their first-round doubles match at the Omnium Banque Nationale Tuesday.

At Shapovalov’s side was a rare sight in recent years: his mother and longtime coach Tessa.

There with Pospisil was Canadian Davis Cup captain Frank Dancevic, who was also Pospisil’s personal coach from 2019 through 2021.

Here’s what they looked like (look for some excellent trick shots from Pospisil later in the video).

Shapovalov has gone through a succession of coaches in recent years, since he decided he wanted his parents to go back to being … his parents.

Pospisil has played so little in the last couple of years there wasn’t really a need to have a full-time coach.

Here are some pics.

The two, who received a wild card into the tournament, face a tough ask against the Italian Olympians Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori.

(Don’t forget – it you love this kind of exclusive stuff, click on an ad or two to support!).

It’s been a busy week for Shapovalov overall. He’s waiting for the name of the qualifier he’ll play in the first round, while Pospisil drew D.C. champion Sebastian Korda.
