Either way, it was a great week for young American Alex Michelsen, as he reaches the Winston-Salem final.

Already at a career high No. 52 at age 19, with his 20th birthday on Sunday, he was into his first career ATP Tour final.

He’s into the top 50 for the first time. And he got away with one, after he fired a ball in frustration that hit a fan in the stands – and likely didn’t get defaulted in large part because it was a full house, and the final, the ramifications for the tournament would have been significant.

For Sonego, 29, it’s a return to the top 50 with his fourth career title, helping to turn around a tough season so far in which he came into the week 14-21.
