The astonishing Sara Errani went for a major title in mixed, as she and Andrea Vavassori tried to overcome the Cinderella American team of Taylor Townsend and Donald Young. They did; it was a great story either way, but the Italians took it.

And the women’s semifinals are a go, with Aryna Sabalenka expected to be there and the other three, perhaps not so much. Sabalenka was also expected to be in the final. And she made it. So did Pegula, for the first time in her career.

The men’s doubles semis are also on tap. And while all the teams are very accomplished, you can see why as much as doubles has its advocates, it’s a challenge to see a way to drive up interest. The final will be Krawietz and Puetz agains Purcell and Thompson.
