No. 2 seed Danielle Collins and No. 3 Victoria Azarenka, who had first-round byes, swung into action today in Guadalajara. And swung right out.

We hoped they’re there to fight for a trophy; Collins was a high seed in Monterrey the week before the US Open – another WTA 500 event – but she was one-and-done in a hurry. Didn’t happen.

The No. 2 and No. 3 seeds in Monastir don’t have the same gravitas. But Clara Burel and Diane Parry were looking for a great opportunity to pick off a WTA Tour title this week. And that also didn’t happen.
