Carol Zhao, the only Canadian in action at the ATP or WTA levels this week, qualified, won a round and faced No. 4 seed Diana Shnaider on Wednesday in Seoul. Shnaider was too much, but good week all the same for the Canadian.

The distribution in the draws this week is somewhat uneven.

And so No. 2 Liudmila Samsonova vs. Veronike Kudermetova (down in the rankings, but top-shelf on the ability scale) is just a second-round encounter.

Her younger sister Polina, who qualified, plays No. 7 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova.

But both put up excellent wins on Wednesday.

In Hua Hin, the rains came and so a number of matches were suspended or cancelled.
