No. 2 seed Karen Khachanov and No. 4 Brandon Nakashima swing into action in Hangzhou.
No. 3 Nicolas Jarry (who played little in Davis Cup last week) and No. 4 Pedro Martinez are doing the same in Chengdu.
The two ATP 250 events have 28 draws, with the four top seeds getting first-round byes.
So far, the crowds in Hangzhou – a new, relocated event with a spiffy retractable-roofed stadium – have been … underwhelming.
(Chengdu and Hangzhou are 12 hours ahead of EDT)

woops…. meant to come down on LAVER CUP ….of course … hahahahah
What kind of pushback is there from ATP tournaments like Chengdu and Hangzhou that are paying 1.1 million dollars but are not getting the top players ? Ticket sales are dismal so they can’t be making much back with that. The top guys are at the Hopman Cup of course this week, which is a dreary, irrelevant exhibition (and that is being kind, in my opinion). I wish Hopman Cup would disappear and the Davis Cup could thus use this better week. I keep hearing of the economic trouble in China, but it looks like the corporate money doesn’t care … what gives ?
