No. 1 and No. 3 seeds made it to the WTA 500 in Seoul, with Daria Kasatkina playing Beatriz Haddad Maia for the big title.
Neither had to go three sets in either of the two matches on Saturday – the quarter and semifinals. So they should be fresh enough for the final. But after being up 6-1, 3-1, Kasatkina foundered and Haddad Maia found her game, to take the title.
In Hua Hin, with no seeds in the quarters, the two unseeded players in the final – Laura Siegemund and Rebecca Sramkova – are both unexpected and opportunist. In the end, it was Sramkova who took it all, a week after making the final in Monastir.
(Seoul is 13 hours ahead of EDT; Hua Hin is 11 hours ahead)
