After a quarterfinal effort in Tokyo, Canadian Leylah Fernandez is the No. 3 seed in Hong Kong, with a fairly tough first round in Heather Watson.

Later, Tampico champion Marina Stakusic looks to back that up at the WTA 250 in Mérida.

Watson had a lot more experience then the opening opponents of the two higher seeds, No. 1 Diana Shnaider and No. 2 Katie Boulter. But as much as Fernandez struggled on her serve, she won the points she needed to win in a 6-2, 6-2 victory that was a lot tougher than that sounds.

In Jiangxi, a lot of unfamiliar names out of the qualifying (and the lucky losers) getting experience at the WTA level.
