MELBOURNE, Australia – We were going with Fritz v Monfils, and Shelton v Musetti as the probable winners of the day. But certainly did not expect Monfils to come out a winner.

And after his heroics in the middle of the might on Thursday over to Friday, we kept an eye on American qualifier Learner Tien as he took on the tricky Corentin Moutet.

It’s hard to tell what might have been. Moutet was diminished, and it emerged later that he had fainted in the shower shortly before the match and blacked out for about 15 minutes.
