The finals possibilities in Dubai were pretty good – until unseeded Tallon Griekspoor came along and spoiled the party, eliminating defending champion Andrey Rublev.
Griekspoor has had a sub-par year so far. But he had a chance to pick off a 500 title if he can get past a suddenly-improving Daniil Medevedev, who won five titles in 2023, but managed none in 2024, just one small one at the end of 2025 and opened the season by taking another in Brisbane.
Except, that didn’t happen. Griekspoor withdrew before the final, handing Medevedev the title.
