MORE TENNIS THAN YOU'LL EVER NEED

WTA Rankings Report – As of March 16, 2026

Two weeks in the desert, with some exra tournaments the second week, mean a lot of moves in the rankings.

And the biggest, despite her loss in the final, is that Elena Rybakina moves to No. 2 in the rankings for the first time ever.

And Victoria Mboko moves up another spot, after her quarterfinal effort in the desert.

For the complete, updated WTA rankings for Monday, click here.

Elena Rybakina (KAZ): No. 3 ===========> No. 2 (It took some time. But Elena Rybakina has separated herself from Iga Swiatek and ascended to the No. 2 spot in the rankings for the first time in her career. And this was unrelated to whether or not she won Indian Wells. She’s more than 3,300 points behind the top spot, though).

Victoria Mboko (CAN): No. 10 ===========> No. 9 (When you’re No. 333 in the world, you can rocket up the rankings by winning some matches at the top level. When you get to the top 10, even a sterling result like the Indian Wells quarterfinal only moves you up one. And that was mostly because Mboko’s desert dubs partner, Mirra Andreeva, was defending a title and lost in the third round. But hey, take it).

Leylah Fernandez (CAN): No. 27 ===========> No. 25 (Fernandez lost her opener, but still moves up two in part because of other results. She has yet to win back-to-back matches this season and has lost her opener in five of her seven events. It’s a grind right now).

Alexandra Eala (PHI): No. 32 ===========> No. 29 (Eala moves up again with her fourth round effort at Indian Wells, where she once again brought the crowds. Her challenge this week is defending a huge result from Miami a year ago. But she’ll have a first-round bye to save some energy but didn’t get a fabulous draw).

Oleksandra Oliynykova (UKR): No. 71 ===========> No. 66 (Oliynykova, who made a splash at the Australia Open and has kept going, makes the final at a WTA 125 in Antalya and moves to another career high. She is skipping the Sunshing Swing).

Talia Gibson (AUS): No. 112 ===========> No. 68 (There is a posse of Australia Open around this ranking point. But Gibson, 21, pulls away by qualifying and making the quarterfinals at Indian Wells. Nevertheless, she still has to qualify this week in Miami because that ranking hadn’t yet kicked in).

Anastasia Zakharova (RUS): No. 86 ===========>No. 74 (The 24-year-old hits a new career high after qualifying and winning a round at Indian Wells, and qualifying and making the quarterfinals in Austin the second week).

Taylor Townsend (USA): No. 87 ===========> No. 80 (Townsend had to hustle to Indian Wells after making her first WTA final in Austin. She got through, and won a round to make a nice move. She and Katerina Siniakova also won the doubles. Worth the hustle).

Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva  (AND): No. 97 ===========> No. 89 (Another nice move for the former Australian Open junior champion, who needed so much time just to finally break the top 100 and who qualified and won a round at Indian Wells).

Paula Badosa (ESP): No. 106 ===========> No. 100 (After dropping outside the top 100, the former No. 2 squeaks back in after making the Austin semifinals; she lost in the first round at Indian Wells, a tournament she has won).

Hanne Vandewinkel (BEL): No. 115 ===========> No. 104 (The Belgian prospect wins the high-level ITF in Trnava and moves to a new career high).

Lanlana Tararudee (THA): No. 124  ===========> No. 106 (The 21-year-old qualified at Indian Wells, and then went from the qualifying to the title at the WTA 125 in Austin, beating Bianca Andreescu in the final to reach a new career best).

Anhelina Kalinina (UKR): No. 189 ===========> No. 127 (Remember when Kalinina made the Italian Open final? She got to No. 25 in May, 2023. But it’s been a tough year or so. She’s making moves at the WTA 125s in Turkey, winning one and making the final in a second).

Bianca Andreescu (CAN): No. 165 ===========>No. 146 (It’s been a slow, slow process for Andreescu to climb back up in the rankings, despite how many matches she’s won at the lower levels this year. She reaches the final at the WTA 125 in Austin after getting a wild card, and lops nearly 20 spots off that number to get back into the top 150)

Elena Rybakina (KAZ) (No. 2)
Victoria Mboko (CAN) (No. 9)
Iva Jovic (USA) (No. 17)
Alexandra Eala (PHI) (No. 29)
Oleksandra Oliynykova (UKR) (No. 66)
Talia Gibson (AUS) (No. 68)
Anastasia Zakharova (RUS) (No. 74)
Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva (AND) (No. 87)
Hanne Vandewinkel (BEL) (No. 104)
Lanlana Tararudee (THA) (No. 106)

Iga Swiatek (POL): No. 2 ===========> No. 3 (Her fans are panicking a little bit. And it certainly seems like Swiatek’s tennis is flailing a little bit even if she’s looked better, at times, recently. It seems like a work in progress that also has to go back to the drawing board every week).

Mirra Andreeva (RUS): No. 8 ===========> No. 10 (It’s only two spots in the rankings, and she’s still in the top 10. But Andreeva right crashed out of Indian Wells in the third round, with thrown racquets and profanities directed at the crowd. She won the title a year ago, and she’s finding out that defending what you won last year is a different level of pressure).

Liudmila Samsonova (RUS): No. 19 ===========> No. 22 (The 27-year-old Russian drops out of the top 20 as she loses in the second round of Indian Wells this year, after making the quarterfinals a year ago).

Daria Kasatkina (AUS): No. 60 ===========> No. 64 (A rough year so far for the Aussie, who is skipping the entire Sunshine Swing. She made the third round in the desert a year ago).

Viktorija Golubic (SUI): No. 75 ===========> No. 84 (Golubic was a high quaifying seed at Indian Wells, but she lost in the first round. She also lost in the first round in Austin last week).

Danielle Collins (USA): No. 78 ===========> No. 99 (Collins isn’t playing at the moment – her last tournament was last year’s US Open, although she hasn’t announced a retirement. She’s been doing Tennis Channel and drops her points from the third round at Indian Wells a year ago. She also has fourth-round points from Miami, and quarterfinal points from Charleston coming off, so she’ll drop out of the top 150 in a few weeks).

Alycia Parks (USA): No. 96 ===========> No.105 (Call her the yoyo as Parks once again drops out of the top 100, after losing in the first round of Indian Wells to … qualifier Himeno Sakatsume).

Lulu Sun (NZL): No. 100 ===========> No. 111  (Sun, whose career high of No. 39 came in Sept. 2024, has struggled lately. And after losing in the final round of qualifying at Indian Wells and the second round in Austin, and dropping her points from making the third round a year ago and it out of the top 100. She has yet to win a main draw match this year).

Donna Vekic (CRO): No. 103 ===========> No. 117 (Vekic, a former No. 17, is really struggling and since Indian Wells might have been her last direct entry into a big event for awhile, has to qualify in Miami. She lost in the second round at the WTA 125 in Austin).
