Of the 16 original seeds, 13 have survived, which is somewhat surprising given it feels like there have been a fair number upsets.
And their form showed; of the eight matches, five were legitimate upsets. The only three through were the three top seeds in action: Sabalenka, Rybakina and Pegula.
For Fernandez, it was a desultory loss against Pegula. She was overmatched, and leaves another tournament asking herself questions.
