A fun (well, not for them) opening match that featured two high profile wild cards: former No. 2 Paula Badosa and rising Austrian star Lilli Tagger. It was terrific and featured some nerves in the second set from 18-year-old Tagger, a comeback from Badosa, and then a closeout.
Also on tap, Alexandra Eala took Austrian Julia Grabher – a rare match where she might well not be the crowd favorite.
That’ll be an adjustment for her, after getting SO much love from Filipino fans from Australia to the Middle East to the desert of California. But she got through, without too many issues.
(Charleston is on EDT; Bogotá is an hour behind)
