Samsonova had the more interesting matchup as she faced fresh-faced homegirl Lilli Tagger, just 18.
Alexandrova played Karolina Pliskova, who returned from injury in Australia but hasn’t played in recent weeks. She did win her first round, though.
And both of those top seeds went out.
