The seeds meet in the third round, although you’d expect unseeded Belinda Bencic to get past struggling No. 16 seed Beatriz Haddad Maia in a battle of lookalikes. She did, but barely.

Looking at Swiatek and Gauff, both of whom really struggled in getting through their openers. Either they would bounce back nicely, or it would be a slog again. Luckily for them, the former.

The only Canadian content was in the doubles where Dabrowski and Routliffe, along with Leylah Fernandez, were in action. And they all went out.

And a rare doubles appearance by Madison Keys and Maria Sakkari, who got a wild card and are teaming up together and posted a great win.
