The final finals before the WTA Tour officially moves to Europe – although next week is indoors and the week after that is Stuttgart on indoor clay.
No. 1 Jessica Pegula, who did marathon work in winning three setters to get to this point – and said in a Tennis Channel interview after the semifinals that she was completely “over it” (!!) – faced unseeded Yuliia Starodubtseva. The Ukrainian was the last one to squeeze into the main draw, and this final was just a little too much for her to navigate with serenity.
Meanwhile, a great opportunity for Marie Bouzkova in Bogota to win her third career title and her first outside of home in Prague. It took her two hours and 50 minutes against Panna Udvardy, but she got it done.
(Charleston is on EDT; Bogotá is an hour behind)
