MORE TENNIS THAN YOU'LL EVER NEED

Boulais back with Tennis Canada

Veteran coach Yves Boulais, who has worked with most of the last few generations of Canadian women, is leaving a senior director post at the JTCC in College Park, Maryland to return to Tennis Canada full time.

The news release on the centre’s website refers to Boulais’ new position as “the executive teaching position at Team Canada Tennis Federation”, which obviously makes no sense on any level.

Tennis Canada isn’t planning to announce the appointment for awhile, but sources tell Open Court that the job is actually as “director of high-performance clubs and under-10 talent development”, based in Toronto.

Boulais will continue to coach American player Alison Riske, but in a consultant’s role.

So that’s a pretty sweet deal.

Boulais and his wife, the former Canadian player Patricia Hy-Boulais, were senior directors at the facility, called the Junior Tennis Champions Center. It was the first regional training centre certified by the USTA. They had only been there since May 1.

Previous to that, they had been based out of Hilton Head, S.C. for a decade before moving to the Atlanta area to start their own facility.

Hy-Boulais also will leave the centre, in February.

Boulais spent much of 2012 working in tandem with Nathalie Tauziat with Genie Bouchard, in her final (very successful) year of juniors.

He also has worked with Marie-Eve Pelletier, Rebecca Marino … basically, you name it.
