Dubois to Round 2

MELBOURNE – It was a victory that did Stéphanie Dubois a lot of good – her first of a 2014 season during which she hopes to make the struggles of 2013 a distant memory.

Dubois defeated Noppawan Lertcheewakarn of Thailand 7-6 (1), 6-4, outlasting her on a warm day and overcoming a few shaky moments.

Here are some pics of the match.

Dubois served for the first set, but was broken back before dominating the tiebreaker.

In the second, after Lertcheewakarn had a long medical timeout for what appeared to be a lower leg injury, she used her defence and her consistency to prevail over the 22-year-old Thai, who hits two-handed on both sides.

Dubois will face Alexandra Panova of Russia Friday in Round 2.
