The last time we saw Vera Zvonareva was more than two years ago. Then, the former world No. 2 seemed to be fighting a losing battle with injuries.
After one aborted attempt in April, she’s back this week, in qualifying at a $25K ITF event in Uzbekistan.
Twenty-four of the 32 players are Uzbeks you’ve never, ever heard of.
She beat one, Shakhsiya Tukhtamatova, 6-1, 6-2 in the second and final round Monday to reach the main draw.
Zvonareva married her longtime boyfriend last August, shortly after having daughter Evelina. She’s still only 32.
