American umpire Tony Nimmons, at one time the USTA’s only African-American silver badge umpire, has worked all of the major events.
But he’s at odds with the USTA, for whom he no longer works.
In the wake of Nimmons’ contention that the EEOC has verified claims of racial discrimination, and his claim that the USTA has penalized him for complaining, he has set up a petition to be sent to the New York City mayor. It’s interesting reading.
A few years ago, Nimmons was full of praise on the USTA’s website.
