When Anabel Medina Garrigues accepted the Spanish Fed Cup captaincy, her association with Jelena Ostapenko was over.
Medina Garrigues was at the Spanish national championships this week – not with her now-former charge for her first career appearance at the WTA Tour Finals in Singapore.
Ostapenko won only her final match, played after she was already eliminated in the round-robin.
“I made the decision that I felt most, that I most wanted and the one I liked the most,” Medina Garrigues told Mundo Deportivo.
Andis Juska, a Latvian player who retired in 2014, was with Ostapenko.
