It came as a surprise to some. But after Next-Gen player Karen Khachanov lost two of his three pool matches in Milan, he announced he and coach Galo Blanco had parted ways.
Blanco’s niche has seemed to be as a “transition” coach for talented juniors hitting the pros.
The two had been together four years. But Khachanov stagnated this season. He began 2017 just outside the top 50. He’s now at No. 45.
Since Cincinnati in early August, the only Tour match the Russian won was against junior wild card Wu Di, in the first round of Beijing.
