First top-10 win for Buzarnescu

At the start of 2017, Romania’s Mihaela Buzarnescu was ranked No. 540.

The 29-year-old lefty is the poster woman for not giving up on your dreams. A year later, she’ll not only likely be inside the top 40 next week, she also has her first win over a top-10 player.

Buzarnescu rolled over world No. 6 Jelena Ostapenko 6-1, 6-3 Wednesday in Doha.

“Coach, friends, family were supporting me, (telling) me you have to give it one more try and you have to believe in yourself, because I wasn’t believing in myself any more,” Buzarnescu said in her on-court interview.
