The verdict on the ankle injury Dominic Thiem suffered during his third-round match against Pablo Cuevas at Indian Wells was a hairline fracture, according to Austrian media outlet Krone.
Thiem had an MRI in Indian Wells, and will miss Miami – and perhaps more – as he returns home to Austria for another examination Friday.
The 24-year-old already has played seven tournaments this year (including Davis Cup).
He could miss Austria’s Europe zonal Davis Cup tie against Russia the weekend after Miami.
Add him to the list of injured/absent top players that includes Murray, Nadal, Wawrinka and Goffin.
